  • Offers an easy-to-use reference guide for clinicians, radiologists, dentists and gnathologists
  • Helps clinicians understand the correlations between TMJ anatomy, function, dysfunction and MRI
  • Focuses on the results of a long-standing collaboration between expert radiologists and clinicians

This book provides essential information on examination methods for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pathology, which is now increasingly gaining attention, as it is involved in diverse clinical conditions that are often difficult to diagnose.

Similarly, a number of imaging sub-specialties (e.g. dental radiology, neuroradiology and musculoskeletal radiology) deal with the temporomandibular joint. In fact the book itself is the result of a fruitful, long-standing collaboration between expert radiologists and clinicians and describes the most relevant features of and technical requirements for MRI (patient positioning, TMJ dedicated coil, sequences) that one needs to know in order to optimally conduct examinations.

Furthermore, the authors provide clinicians and imaging professionals with fundamental information on TMJ anatomy, dynamics, function and dysfunction, allowing them to correlate clinical aspects to MRI findings, and supporting the correct interpretation of results and differential diagnosis. Special and rare findings (arthritis, osteochondroma, synovial chondromatosis) are also examined. Given its extensive and varied coverage, the book will be of interest to radiologists, dentists, gnathologists, maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontists, and posturologists seeking a thorough overview of the subject.

Dr. Tiziana Robba, M.D. has been serving as a musculoskeletal radiologist at the Orthopaedic Hospital and Trauma Centre of Turin (CTO – Città della Salute e della Scienza di Torino) since 2001. Her experience chiefly involves traumatology, musculoskeletal and TMJ MRI, and musculoskeletal oncology.

Dr. Carlotta Tanteri, M.D. graduated with a degree in Odonthology from the University of Turin prior to attending King’s College of London and the University of Torino, where she graduated in Dentistry. She has been an adjunct professor at the University of Turin since 2011 and at Steinbeis University of Berlin since 2012. Her work mainly focuses on gnathology, temporomandibular disorders, oral rehabilitation and oral pathology.

Dr. Giulia Tanteri, M.D. graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Turin, where she subsequently completed her Maxillofacial Surgery specialization. Her research interests include TMJ disorders and rehabilitation, head and neck reconstructive surgery and oral surgery, topics she has published on. She is currently an adjunct professor at Steinbeis University and works as a private practitioner.
