An online course supplement, it aims to develop the student's vocabulary, and help him acquire knowledge of word analysis. It supplements the books it accompanies. It includes visual and auditory elements and interactivities to synthesize concepts presented in the textbooks and demonstrate the practical application of medical language.
"Medical Terminology Online" is an online course supplement with a myriad of learning opportunities to accommodate diverse learning styles and circumstances. The greater the number of resources available to facilitate learning and the more varied the presentation, the greater the likelihood that comprehension and retention of material will occur. With this in mind, the goals of this medical terminology online course supplement are two-fold: first, development by the student of a specialized vocabulary, and second, acquisition of a knowledge of word analysis from which students can generalize, enabling mastery of unfamiliar terms. "Medical Terminology Online" will supplement, rather than replace, the books it accompanies. The courseware will provide many more learning opportunities beyond those in the texts. A range of visual and auditory elements and interactivities are included to amplify text content, synthesize concepts presented in the textbooks, reinforce learning, and demonstrate the practical application of medical language. All content is being developed for web delivery using standard formats.
The institution and instructor may choose from the WebCT or Blackboard version of the course. In addition, if the institution uses another e-learning platform, we can deliver generic HTML assets to use in building a course. "MTO" is designed to be used in a variety of learning environments, including the following: self-study in learning labs at institutions which shows that self-study could substitute completely for traditional lecture-format classes, enables students to log on, complete lessons, and take quizzes and exams online with results being recorded for the instructor, the program which is designed with the expectation that the average student will spend about 40 hours working through the program, thus approximating the number of instructional hours that a 3-credit hour, semester-long course would provide, including time for taking quizzes and exams, and the use of the course management system (WebCT or Blackboard) through which instructors will be able to scale the amount of content for which the students are responsible to reflect the requirements of their particular course.
It also includes: supplement to lecture-format classes which contains the online course supplement that could be used for review, or to supplement lectures with the instructor assigning particular portions for completion; and, distance learning via the Internet which is the courseware, in combination with the text, that could provide the content for a distance learning course.
