Assembling a broad range of current research findings on animal venoms that affect human hemostatic mechanisms, this reference offers a wealth of information on clinical research, including such medical applications as anticoagulant therapy and clinical laboratory testing, and fundamental research involving blood coagulation and platelet biology. Hemostasis and Animal Venoms details procoagulant venom factors ... thrombin-like enzymes ... fibrinogen and fibrinolytic activities ... venom inhibitors of proteolysis . . . hemostasis . . . platelet activating and aggregating factors ... hemorrhagic factors ... plus more. In addition, it furnishes a consistent framework for understanding innovative developments by coupling reviews with new research results. Illustrated with over 270 tables, diagrams, and photographs-including 8 color micrographs-and referenced with over 1,300 bibliographic citations of pertinent literature, Hemostasis and Animal Venoms is an important source for hematologists, toxicologists, pharmacologists, biochemists and clinical chemists, internists, pathologists, and herpetologists.
