This text responds to the new era in CT scanning in which the X-ray tube is rotated continuously around the patient. The advantages of helical/spiral CT over conventional CT include: faster imaging; better resolution; continuous image data; 3-D imaging capabilities; being cheaper than MRI.
This text responds to the new era in CT scanning in which the X-ray tube is rotated continuously around the patient. Since helical/spiral CT is superior to conventional CT, it is expected to become the standard technique by the late 1990s. There are a number of advantages of helical/spiral CT over conventional CT: faster imaging; better resolution; ability to acquire continuous image data; 3-D imaging capabilities; cheaper than MRI; and fewer image artifacts. It is also possible to acquire a large number of images with very small reconstruction intervals, and provide the images with a high degree of continuity.

Part 1 Changes in CT diagnostic methods and CT scanning techniques: the evolution of CT diagnostic techniques; outline of the development of CT technology. Part 2 Dynamic CT imaging: dynamic subtraction cine CT angiography in central nervous system; usefulness of dynamic CT in the evaluation of abnormal external ocular muscle movements; dynamic respiratory scanning in chest disease; CT observations of haemodynamics in tumours. Part 3 Three-dimensional imaging: three-dimensional CT surface reconstruction technique in examination of the head; multiplanar reconstruction CT imaging of the head and neck; diagnosis of small nodular lesions in the peripheral lung; three-dimensional CT in lung tumours. Part 4 Diagnosis by helical scan: physical characteristics; clinical usefulness of helical scan; surgical simulation in neurosurgery using helical scan; three-dimensional vascular imaging using helical scan; radiological anatomy of the right cardiophrenic angle; assessment using helical scan; application of helical scan to the examination of the chest; applications of helical scan in heart disease; applications of helical scan in the examination of the liver and pancreas; clinical applications of helical scan in specific areas; applications of helical scan in treatment.
