This booklet is designed to provide haematologists receiving a basic training in blood transfusion with a comprehensive review of the practical aspects of the subject. The text covers the field in ten chapters and suggestions for further reading are provided. The opening chapters deal with the collection and processing of blood donations, the use of blood components and plasmapheresis. A brief account of the red blood cell group systems together with information about the HLA antigens and their relevance in bone marrow and renal transplantation is given in a later chapter. Contained within the book is some idea of the range of interesting work to be found within a regional transfusion centre.
