This timely book reveals an integrated approach to myocardial preservation focusing on translational research and clinical applications. Chapters cover both the mechanisms of heart failure in addition to therapeutic considerations, including forms of cardiac cell death, cardiac remodelling and cardiac regeneration. Potential future research directions are also proposed, enabling the reader to gain a broad in-depth understanding of the topic.
Myocardial Preservation: Translational Research and Clinical Application presents a thorough review of myocardial preservation. Its comprehensive approach provides a valuable reference for cardiology researchers and practising and trainee cardiologists seeking new insight to the topic.
Dennis V. Cokkinos, MD, PHD, has been a Research Associate of the Cardiovascular Clinical Research and the Biomedical Research Foundation at the Academy of Athens since April 2009. He is a Professor of Cardiology at the University of Athens and was a Chairman of the Cardiology Department at Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, Athens, for 15 years until 2009.
After a long and distinguished career, he became a Professor Emeritus in August 2005. Dr Cokkinos has also established a career in the European Society of Cardiology. He was a founding fellow of the Society in 1988, and acted as Vice-President during its early years.
He was also a founding member of the Working Group of Exercise Physiology, Physiopathology and Electrocardiography, European Society of Cardiology, and acted as its president.
He is President of the European Association of Professors Emeriti
He became an Elected Foreign Corresponding Member at the International Academy of Medicine, Paris, in December 2011. Dr Cokkinos is a present and past member of many editorial boards in scientific journals.
He has also produced many publications. In Greek he has authored 4 books and over 300 articles, and his international publications include the textbooks Myocardial Ischemia, Springer 2006, and Introduction to Translational Cardiovascular Research, Springer 2014, as well as over 400 articles in peer review journals.
