The first section discusses available sources of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants, biochemistry, structural composition, potential biological activities, and how bioactive molecules are isolated from medicinal plants. The authors examine the applications of bioactive molecules from a health perspective, looking at the pharmacological aspects of medicinal plants, the phytochemical and biological activities of different natural products, and ethnobotany/and medicinal properties, and also present a novel dietary approach for disease management. The book goes on to examine the plant-based products are used and can be used in various sectors of the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Hafiz Ansar Rasul Suleria, PhD, is the McKenzie Fellow in the Department of Agriculture and Food Systems at The University of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. He earlier worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Food Sciences, Government College University Faisalabad, Pakistan, and as a Research Associate in the PAK-US Joint Project. In addition to receiving several awards for his work, Dr. Suleria has published more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers in different reputable/impacted journals. He is currently working with several universities in various roles. Megh R. Goyal, PhD, PE, is a Retired Professor in Agricultural and Biomedical Engineering from the General Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico–Mayaguez Campus. He has worked as a Soil Conservation Inspector and as a Research Assistant at Haryana Agricultural University and Ohio State University. During his professional career of over 50 years, he has received many prestigious awards. A prolific author and editor, he has written more than 200 journal articles and several textbooks and has edited over 70 books. Masood Sadiq Butt, PhD, is Dean of the Faculty of Food, Nutrition & Home Sciences at the University of Agriculture in Faisalabad, Pakistan. Previously, he served as Director General of the National Institute of Food Science and Technology and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. He was also a visiting Professor at the Department of Food Science, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA. Dr. Butt established the Functional and Nutraceutical Food Research Section at the National Institute of Food Science and Technology under a PAK-US joint project. The recipient of several awards, he has published more than 200 research publications in journals.
