Guides nursing and healthcare students through the concept of evidence-based practice, explaining what it is, why it is important and providing practical guidance on its utilisation in clinical practice.
What is evidence-based practice and why do we need it?

How do I critique evidence?

How do I use evidence to drive practice?

If you are looking for jargon-free answers to these questions and much more, this is the book for you.

In Evidence-based Practice for Nurses and Healthcare, the authors use case studies, examples, and theoretical overviews to guide you through the concept of evidence-based practice and provide practical guidance on its utilisation in clinical practice.
The new 4th edition has been fully updated to reflect contemporary practice and includes a new chapter on the ‘History and Development of Clinical Academics,’ which looks at clinical academic careers and the impact and benefits this has for nurses and healthcare professionals on their clinical practice. Written to support nurses at pre and post-registration, the book includes an interdisciplinary focus covering health and social care curricula.

Paul Linsley is a senior lecturer for the University of East Anglia (UEA). He teaches on a number of courses, both single and joint honours undergraduate programmes, research master’s programmes, and pre- and post-registration specialist programmes. He supervises doctoral students and sits on a number of interest panels and committees. Paul has worked on a number of research projects both as part of a team and as principal investigator. Paul has presented at international conferences and holds a number of awards. He is the author of several textbooks on nursing and health-related matters, one of which has been translated into Arabic and another into Japanese. Paul has an interest in values-based practice, and this is reflected in his work both as a clinician and as an academic.  Ros Kane is Principal Lecturer at the University of Lincoln.  Dr Janet Barker has been involved in nursing for forty years, starting as a cadet nurse at 16 years of age in an Orthopaedic Hospital, moving into general nursing and finally working as a mental health nurse, in both inpatient and community settings. The last twenty years have been spent in nurse education. Janet has vast experience of organising and delivering undergraduate pre-registration nursing courses, taking on the role of Course Director of the Diploma/BSc(Hons) in Nursing programme at the University of Nottingham, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy in 2005. Janet received the University of Nottingham ′Dearing Award′ in 2011 in recognition of her ′outstanding contribution to the development of teaching and student learning′. She retired as Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham in July 2011, however continues to keep abreast of current developments in nursing.
