MANUAL OF NURSING DIAGNOSIS, Ninth Edition, contains the evolving diagnostic language of professional nursing and includes all of the new and revised diagnoses from the fourteenth North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA) conference.
The Manual presents the nursing diagnosis taxonomy under the framework of Functional Health Patterns, created by Marjory Gordon. It provides a quick, pocket reference for students and practitioners to access nursing diagnoses and covers definitions, defining characteristics, and (when applicable) etiological or related factors for every NANDA-approved nursing diagnoses, as well as additional diagnoses developed by the author. It is organized into five parts: (I) Functional Health Patterns Typology, (II) Functional Health Patterns Assessment Guidelines, (III) Use of Diagnostic Categories in Clinical Practice, (IV) Documentation: Format and Example, and (V) Diagnostic Categories.
·Functional Health Pattern organization aids both client assessment and diagnosis. The 11 Functional Health Patterns include: Health Perception-Health-Management, Nutritional-Metabolic, Elimination, Activity-Exercise, Sleep-Rest, Cognitive-Perceptual, Self-Perception-Self-Concept, Role-Relationship, Sexuality-Reproductive, Coping-Stress-Tolerance, and Value-Belief.
·Over 150 nursing diagnoses with listings of definition, defining characteristics, and when appropriate, etiological or related factors .
·Identifies high-risk populations for diagnoses in which incidence if fairly well-established: those conditions described by nursing diagnoses are prevalent in certain groups of people in certain situations or have particular experiences or treatments.
·Written by a present NANDA board member (and past President) who is well-known and well-respected in the nursing community for her work on nursing diagnosis.
·Comprehensive glossary to aid the nursing student or practicing nurse in finding definitions
·Alphabetical listing of diagnoses with pages numbers on the end pages to accommodate quick access to nursing diagnoses
·Diagnostic category index on the back cover to assist the user to quickly find a specific functional health pattern
