New Ways of Understanding Autism offers a unique description of ASD (autism spectrum disorder), emphasizing that an autistic brain is different from a neurotypical brain.
A new understanding of autism spectrum disorder.

The experience of autistic people, real-life stories from parents, and suggested therapeutic approaches are brought together in New Ways of Understanding Autism to provide a realistic sense of autism and to build a sense of hope. Co-authors Brigitte Harrisson and Lise St-Charles, along with Governor General–award winning novelist Kim Thúy, present a new understanding of autism spectrum disorder — one that focuses on putting the needs of the autistic person where they should be: at the centre.

Brigitte Harrisson is a social worker, an expert on autism spectrum disorder, and an autistic person. She co-founded Concept ConsulTED Inc. in 2006, which has since become the SACCADE Centre D’Expertise en Autisme (Centre for Autism Expertise) in Quebec City. She lives on Île d’Orléans, Quebec. Lise St-Charles is co-founder of the SACCADE Centre D’Expertise en Autisme. She has more than thirty years of experience working with people with autism spectrum disorder and their families.
