The Fetal Brain

This text commences with coverage of prenatal diagnosis, genetics and treatment of congenital anomalies of the CNS. This is followed by examination of the embryology of the nervous system and the sonography of the foetal CNS throughout gestation. The book covers four modes of diagnostic imaging: transfontanellar sonography, Doppler velocimetry, computed tomography and nuclear magnetic resonance. Separate chapters on congenital anomalies of the central nervous system are devoted to hydrocephalus, disorders of dorsal induction, disorders of ventral inductions, disorders of nerve cell proliferation and destructive lesions. Each of these chapters includes examination of epidemiology, embryology, aetiology, pathology, antenatal diagnosis, transfontanellar sonography, CT and NMR, prognosis, risk of recurrence and treatment.
