Cancer nursing is a valuable specialist area however almost all nurses will come into contact with people undergoing treatment for cancer in a range of settings. Nurses with specialist knowledge of cancer, its treatments and its many different effects on the patient play a vital role in delivering services and care. In this book the authors have taken a person-centred approach to cancer nursing. This philosophy offers a positive approach to cancer care, one which promotes understanding of the experience of cancer for a range of people in a range of contexts. * Part one provides an up-to-date picture of the contexts of contemporary cancer care, with a focus on epidemiology, nursing theory and models of delivery. It promotes nursing skills such as communication, education and support for the person with cancer and their family. * Part two focuses on the experience of cancer including the cancer journey, the disease process, and examines issues of particular relevance to aged and paediatric patients. * Part three explores the experiences of cancer and treatment for the individual and the family.
It takes an in depth look at the range of treatments available from surgery to radio- and chemo-therapies, biotherapies and stem cell transplants. It details the experiences and effects of those treatments and explores management of symptoms and appropriate care. Written by leading authorities in the field, Cancer Nursing is the first text to explore contemporary cancer nursing practice for those in the Asia-Pacific region.
