This is a description of what is known about the blood cells eosinophils, in man and animals. The book covers the cell biology of eosinophils and the clinical disorders in which eosinophils are important. It is designed to be a guide to the literature on eosinophis and the diseases where they may have a role and also aims to identify areas where new knowledge has been acquired and where this can be applied to further areas of research and clinical practice. It includes a review of over 2000 selected scientific and medical references in this area, published up to the end of 1987. Each section begins with a general review for the non-specialist reader and continues with a more detailed assessment of current research. Particular attention is given to the ways in which eosinophils can damage the heart or combat certain parasites. The work should be of value to immunologists, cardiologists, parasitologists, infectious disease physicians, pathologists, haematologists and general medical libraries.
