The text is based on the results of several years of research by the authors, and is practice-orientated, yet theory-driven. Knowledge in dementia care is used to inform practice and is constructed around a "core" which embraces service providers, the person dealing with dementia, and carers. A balance on each perspective is retained throughout, although data relating to the needs of carers of people with dementia forms the most substantial contribution, in terms of empirical support.
