Minimally invasive mitral valve surgery is a relatively new field that cardiac surgeons are increasingly embracing. Its adoption is exponentially increasing, and patients and cardiologists are demanding this with more enthusiasm. This is a current subject of great interest and contemporary results are already present, with more awaiting to be published. The book describes the whole journey through the set-up of a minimally invasive mitral valve surgery program, pertinent investigations, patient selection, different approaches (including endoscopic and robotic), cardio-pulmonary bypass, re-operations and its application with tricuspid and atrial fibrillation surgery. This book is directed to all training cardiac surgeons and cardiologists, consultant cardiac surgeons and cardiologists, anaesthetists, intensive care specialists and perfusionists. This is the first book authored exclusively on this subject. The two editors are leading authorities on this subject in UK and are mentors for many surgical programs. Every chapter is authored by specialists in that particular aspect of minimally invasive mitral valve surgery discussed. The contributors are mainly from USA and Europe.

Hunaid Vohra's : journey in Cardiac Surgery went through working in hospitals in London (Harefield) and Southampton, UK. Having been conferred the status of a Fellow both by the British as well as the European Cardiac Surgical Boards, he was awarded the prestigious Ethicon Scholarship from the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons to sub-specialise in mitral and aortic valve repair with Professor Gebrine El Khoury at Saint-Luc University Hospital (Brussels) followed by minimally invasive mitral valve repair with Professor Hugo Vanermen at OLV clinic (Aalst, Belgium). On his return to UK, he completed another sub-speciality fellowship in minimally invasive aortic valve replacement and trans-catheter aortic valve insertion (TAVI) at the St Thomas' Hospital, London. His love of the practical aspects of surgery is matched by an enthusiasm for research. He has been awarded a BUPA Cardiac Surgical Research Fellowship where his thesis looked at the mechanisms of apoptosis and necrosis after a myocardial infarction. He maintains an active involvement in research through his Honorary Senior Lecturer position at the University of Bristol. He is faculty on various international training courses and currently holds the position of Associate Editor of the Cardiac Valve section of ICVTS/EJCTS journal.
