This book provides a comprehensive, state-of-the art summary of platelet rich plasmas (PRPs) in the field of regenerative medicine. The book begins with an overview of the basic science behind PRP, describing the role of platelets and growth factors followed by the most important biological effects expected from the use of PRPs.

Platelet Rich Plasma in Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine and Maxillofacial Surgery includes numerous contributions detailing the current use of PRPs in clinical practice. From the origins in oral and maxillofacial surgery, to the latest advances in orthopaedics and sports medicine including the use of Platelet Rich Growth Factors (PRGF) in muscle, bone, tendon, ligament and nerve injuries, this book provides a wide scope of the topic. The volume concludes with chapters from experts in biology, orthopaedics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, where the convergence of expertise is leading to unprecedented insights into how to minutely control the invivo fate and function of PRGF. This book will provide a useful resource for physicians and researchers interested in learning more about this rapidly growing area of biomedical treatment.

Eduardo Anitua, MD, DDS, PhD is Director of the Instituto Eduardo Anitua, Vitoria, Spain. He has lectured at more than 500 courses and conferences on implants, prosthesis, dental aesthetics and tissue regeneration in Spain and abroad in Europe, United States, South America and Asia. In addition to lecturing, he has authored and co-authored more than 10 books and book chapters and more than 100 research and review articles in National and International journals including TRENDS, PPAD, JOMI, JOI, Clinic, Oral Implant Research, Thrombosis and Haemostasis. Ramón Cugat, MD is a Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at Hospital Quirón, Barcelona, Spain. He is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona and the Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera Valencia, as well as co-director of the Chair of Medicine and Regenerative Surgery created in 2013 by the Garcia Cugat Foundation and the Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera Valencia. He also belongs to the international team of faculty of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Meidcine (ISAKOS).
