This volume examines the quality of research into a broad range vascular problems, and assesses the positive evidence for maintaining or changing investigative and treatment strategies. In addition, the authors identify research of dubious benefit and make recommendations for future research.
As in many other areas of medicine and surgery clinical practice in vascular surgery in increasingly being evaluated and modified in the light of evidence available from clinical trials. Based on an extensive review of the international literature a distinguished group of experienced practitioners and researchers bring together in this volume their personal views of the quality of research into a broad area of vascular problems and provide critical appraisals of the positive evidence for maintaining or changing current investigative and treatment strategies. The ACST Study. Can Patients with Amaurosis Fuga or Transient Ischaemic Attack Be Considered Under the Same Heading for Trial Purposes? Are There Population Differences in Prevalence and Incidence of Transient Ischaemic Attacks? Does It Matter How the Carotid Artery Is Measured in Terms of Degrees of Stenosis?
