Using Technology to Improve Care of Older Adults

Diane Chau MD is the PI of a $2.5m grant through the US Department of Health & Human Services to change clinical training environments for health care professionals from all disciplines through telehealth and technology to create a better skilled health care workforce. She is Associate Professor (past Program Director of Geriatric Medicine training program) at UC San Diego. A US News & World Report Top Physician, she completed her geriatric fellowship at UC San Diego School of Medicine in 2002 with a focus on education/curriculum design. During her career she has won over $5.5 million in peer-reviewed grant funding involving simulation training. She has been a published educator, mentor, educational program developer since 2002 with numerous historic and active grant-funding successes. She has a history of work in the area of simulation team training/telemedicine, dynamic team leadership, the successful completion of previous multimillion dollar projects related to education, and (excluding abstracts) has authored over 20 papers and book chapters in her field. She is also the Medical Director of GeriJoy, a tele-monitoring device company for seniors. Thomas F. Osborne MD is the Director of Medical Informatics at Virtual Radiologic, a national radiology practice providing telemedicine services to over 2,100 hospitals and clinics in all 50 states as well as multiple different countries. He is also the Director of Research at MEDNAX, a national multispecialty medical group which comprises the nation’s leading providers and is reshaping the delivery of care with evidence-based solutions. Dr. Osborne is a forward-thinking leader who excels at the collaborative intersection of medicine, technology and business. He is known for his ability to anticipate industry trends and has been nationally recognized as the top physician to watch in his field. His teams are currently focused on a variety of healthcare quality and process improvement initiatives which are positively impacting the care of millions of patients around the world. Additional active projects and research include the design and development of enterprise infrastructures for clinical collaboration, engagement, education, and workflow efficiencies. Dr. Osborne graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and went on to complete his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Harvard Medical School’s Mount Auburn Hospital. Dr. Osborne also completed advanced fellowship training in Neuroradiology at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts’s General Hospital.
