This manual provides guidelines for the performance of emergency procedures for infants and children. It consists of two parts: guidelines for specific paediatric emergency procedures; and case studies to stimulate application. Topics covered include: venous access; fluid and medication administration; oxygenation and ventilation; stabilizing procedures; developmental issues; and case studies. The chapter on age-related development issues provides tips on preparing the patient for procedures according to the child's developmental level. Key areas for emergency skills interventions are also described, including administering fluids bolus, oxygen administration, suctioning, securing and inserting various tubes and intraosseous insertion for ready access to a wide range of emergency nursing skills.
