The proceedings of a workshop in which the problems related to magnesium and physical activity were addressed in depth, and the most recent advances in the knowledge of the general and physiological aspects of magnesium were discussed.
In recent years, growing interest has been devoted to the biochemistry, physiology and pathophysiology of magnesium, particularly since the setting up of methodologies for intracellular dosage of free and bound forms of the ion in different tissues. Magnesium has all the characteristics to be strongly involved in mechanisms regulating physical activity. It is for this reason that the GISM (Italian Group for the Study of Mg) deemed it important to focus on the issue with the contribution of international experts in the field. This book is the proceedings of a workshop held in Pescara, Italy, at the CUMS (University Center of Sports Medicine of the G. D'Annunzio University), on February 26-27, 1994. In this workshop, the problems related to magnesium and physical activity were addressed in depth, and the most recent advances in the knowledge of the general and physiological aspects of magnesium were discussed. The book should be useful for all those interested in magnesium in general and in magnesuim and physical activity in particular.
