Written specifically with the non-science major in mind, When the Body Speaks: An Introduction to Forensic Biology focuses specifically on the biological and chemical areas of forensic science. The text features material from several areas disciplines including pathology, forensic anthropology and odontology, entomology, and botany.

Students learn about organ systems and the autopsy process, body fluids, blood spatter pattern analysis, dermatoglyphics such as skin, hair, prints, fibers, and burns, DNA analysis, and toxicology. Each chapter begins with clearly stated objectives to help students focus and manage their learning.

Based on extensive research into effective curriculum development for students who are not specializing in science-oriented disciplines, When the Body Speaks emphasizes critical thinking. The book shows students what it is like to use scientific methodology to solve problems in everyday life. When the Body Speaks is well-suited to courses for those studying liberal arts disciplines such as pre-law, psychology, and criminology.
