The aim of this volume is to provide a detailed review of diagnostic tests used in the investigation and management of patients with renal disease. The book is directed at postgraduate doctors, but the diversity of topics covered should mean that, in addition to nephrologists, it would be useful to doctors practicing in a number of specialities including immunology, radiology and pathology, and other health workers (e.g. nurses, dieticians) in renal units. The aim would be to provide a reference book for libraries and departments, as well as individual doctors. The book is divided into two parts. In the first a detailed description of tests used in nephrology, and the interpretation of abnormal results, is given. The second part describes how these tests are used in the investigation of specific renal disorders. Although there is some overlap between sections, the emphasis in the first part is on the principle underlying the test, understanding how it is performed, and the interpretation of abnormal results. The second part describes indications for the tests, and their use in clinical practice.

Part One Diagnostic tests: biochemistry; haematology; urinalysis; immunology; radiology; nuclear medicine; renal biopsy; genetics. Part Two Renal investigations in clinical practice: acute renal failure; chronic renal failure; transplantation; hypertension; pregnancy; paediatrics.
