Dr. Lewis Landsberg was graduated Summa Cum Laude from Williams College in 1960 and from Yale University School of Medicine in 1964. Following residency training in internal medicine at Yale he pursued a research fellowship at the NIH in the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Julius Axelrod. After two years on the faculty of Yale, Dr. Landsberg was recruited to Harvard Medical School where he was promoted to Professor of Medicine in 1986. In 1990 he joined the faculty of Northwestern University as the Irving S. Cutter Professor and Chairman of the Department of Medicine and in 1999 was appointed Dean of the School of Medicine. On the occasion of his retirement as Dean, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, its medical staff, and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation made an extraordinary gift of endowment to create and name the Lewis Landsberg Deanship.
