Biomechanics of the Hand describes the role of the hand and explain the functional and economic implications associated with pathological conditions. This book updates knowledge on the mechanical properties of the musculoskeletal system of the hand in normal and pathological situation. Biomechanics of the Hand provides the link between clinical practice and research in hand (between surgeons and bioengineers) and is also a source of information (situations leading to stress and pathology) for all professionals (ergonomists, physiotherapists).

Dr Sebastien Durand is a doctor associated with the Centre de la main since 2015. He studied in Paris and obtained his PhD in medicine in 2004, he specialized in Orthopaedics and Traumatology surgery in 2006 and hand surgery in 2007. He also specializes in surgery paralysis focusing particularly on brachial plexus for which he received a bursary from the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital de Stanmore (UK). He is a member of the " societe francaise de chirurgie de la main " and a member of the " societe francaise de Biomecanique ".From 2009 to 2015, he participated in the creation of the SOS Main du Pays d'Aix center which is one of the first SOS Main centers in France. With a PhD in biomechanics, he has also been named coordinator of the research in hand surgery in the CHUV and the head of prosthetic surgery of the hand and wrist.
