While nursing research continues to grow in importance both in practice and education, it presents a special challenge for the classroom. This video series is designed as a medium for teaching research, offering viewers a perspective on current nursing research, illustrating its process, practice, and importance. Each production in the series profiles prominent nurse researchers who detail the goals, methods, outcomes and implications of their long-term research. Each volume features timely and interesting research in an inviting presentation that instils an appreciation for nursing research that reflects its increased emphasis in improving health care; a brief personal introduction to the researcher, biographical profile, goals of the research, a summary of the research findings and implications for future research provide viewers with an understanding of the research process and topics presented in each video. The series introduces researchers as real people, and portrays their research as ongoing and tangible, providing students with a solid understanding of what research is, and high-quality videos come packaged in plastic cassette cases for convenience and easy storage.
Volume 2 of the series profiles the research of Nancy Fugate Woods, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Parent and Child Nursing at the University of Washington School of Nursing in Seattle, Washington. For nearly 20 years Dr. Woods has been a leader and innovator in the development of women's health as a field of study in nursing science. In collaboration with colleagues at the University of Washington, Dr. Woods established the Centre for Women's Health Research, which focuses on women's health across the lifespan. Her current research focuses on indentifying casual factors in the development of premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual magnification symptom patterns.
