This text is one of a series of three modules developed for nurse students working on education programmes leading to first-level registration. The book introduces the notion of childbearing in today's society, the interactive material invite the learner to consider some of the issues which confront women and their partners who are contemplating parenthood and the resources available to support them. The book was developed from the "Nursing Times", National Board approved, Open Learning Programme for Enrolled Nurse Conversion. It recognizes that birth is something which affects everyone. The learners are encouraged to explore their own attitudes, beliefs and experience, as well as those of friends, colleagues and the client group to whom they are attached.
