Exploring the key concepts which underpin the traditional intervention areas of Environmental Health, this book aims to expand the remit of the Environmental Health Practitioner, enabling them to think beyond the key intervention areas as a means to a greater understanding of how to integrate environmental health issues with public health issues.
Environmental Health is an area within the field of public health that is concerned with all aspects of the natural and built environment that affect the health of a population.

In this landmark text, Graeme Mitchell eschews the traditional model of environmental health, which views the primary stressors that contribute to publish health as focused on five key intervention areas: food safety, health and safety, housing, environmental protection and health promotion. In its place, Mitchell explores the key concepts and themes which underpin these intervention areas, paving the way for a reformed approach to Environmental Health. Including chapters on risk, health inequalities, globalisation, controls, communication and research, Introducing Environmental Health aims to expand the remit of the Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP), enabling them to think beyond the key intervention areas and instead to engage with the underlying, interdisciplinary concepts as a means to a greater understanding of how to integrate environmental health issues with general public health issues.

Written for students by an experienced lecturer with over 20 years of experience as an EHP, Introducing Environmental Health seeks to provide students with the tools to understand and engage with the legislation and procedures which exist in the field. Suitable for students studying to become EHPs, as well as for graduates who are in the process of gaining their professional registration.

Graeme Mitchell lectures at Liverpool John Moores University in the Centre for Public Health. He is the programme leader for the BSc (Hons) Environmental Health. He is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, with 20 years of experience as an Environmental Health Practitioner in local government across the North West of England. His environmental health interests centre on housing, pest control and emergency planning.
