Over the past decade, areas of study within the field of human papillomavirus research have greatly expanded. This broadening interest is due to the discovery of the association of specific types of these viruses with certain human malignancies, such as cervical carcinoma. "Papillomaviruses" is a state-of-the-art review of recent progress in this field.
