This text has been designed to fill a hiatus in dental education by giving an account of craniofacial growth, starting at the beginning of embryonic development. It attempts to reconcile the many divergent views on the subject and to give the student an anatomical introduction to orthodontics.

This developmental approach to normal anatomy helps throw light on the apparently involved structural make-up of the head and neck and will help a heavily burdened student to reconcile the many divergent views on the subject.
