Mental Health and Mental Illness

This workbook has been written specifically to provide general nursing students with an introduction to the care of patients experiencing mental health problems, whether in the general ward setting or during a psychiatric module. The text will help the reader to recognize the problems, their causes and consequences and to identify ways of helping the person experiencing them both in the institutional setting and community work. No particular model of nursing has been used and each chapter is approached in a different way. This is because there is no one way which is most appropriate, and if one specific model is used in a text of this kind the learner is likely to find the transition to whatever model is being used within the work place a more difficult one.
