Focuses specifically on the educational needs of RN to BSN students with prior experience

This innovative text is specifically designed to meet the needs of registered nurses taking the community health course that is a requirement for completing an online or classroom RN to BSN program. Unlike other texts that focus on NCLEX-specific content or assume no prior nursing experience, this text distills the foundations of population-centered health nursing practice as it acknowledges the prior learning and work experiences of RN to BSN students. The book incorporates the principles of epidemiology, leadership skills, and the specialized knowledge needed to work in a community-based setting. It builds upon previous experience, uniquely featuring a baseline assessment activity at the start of each chapter so that students are able to incorporate prior knowledge into their new skills. Additionally, information is streamlined to focus on key fundamentals without distracting, extraneous material.

Content is aligned with the recommendations of leading public and community health practice organizations, and incorporates the AACN Essentials for Baccalaureate Education, IOM Core Competencies, and QSEN KSA. Replete with case studies, vignettes, and critical thinking exercises, the text also includes self-assessment exercises. Chapters include objectives and learning outcomes, key terms, QSEN considerations, and apply-what-you-learned activities. Additionally, the book directs readers toward resources for further study and includes an instructor toolkit.
