Endoscopic methods are regarded as the most effective means of diagnosing lung cancer. This work covers epidemiology, aetiology, detection, localization and treatment, and examines some 60 cases of early stage central type lung cancer.
Incidences of lung cancer are rising at a phenomenal rate. Efforts to improve its detection at an early stage have indicated a 60% five-year survival rate for treated patients. Endoscopic methods are seen as the most effective means of diagnosing the condition. In order to provide an accurate diagnosis, it is essential to be familiar with the spectrum of endoscopic findings that lesions can present. Within this atlas, Dr Kato and his colleagues have collected and examine some 60 cases of early stage central type lung cancer, contributed from institutions throughout Japan. It covers epidemiology, aetiology, detection, localization and treatment, and offers criteria for distinguishing between early, limited cancer lesions and those which have metastasized.

Methods of detection; cases; early stage lung cancer treatment.
