This practical clinical text takes the reader through the neuropsychological examination process then discusses additional topics and issues of neuropsychological assessment. Contributors are all engaged in the clinical practice of neurospychological assessment as well as in teaching and research.
Neuropsychological assessment is a difficult and complicated process. Often clinicians fail to attend to fundamental issues of assessment or are unaware of many of the potential sources of error. Given that formal test data on the surface appears unambiguous and objective, neuropsychologists may fall into the practice of overemphasizing tests and their scores and underemphasizing the less formal aspects of assessment, including all of the prerequisite factors which affect the validity, reliability, and interpretability of test data. Interpretation is far from straightforward, and a pragmatic application of assessment results requires attention to a multitude of issues and concerns.

This practical clinical text takes the reader step-by-step through the evaluation process and then discusses additional topics and issues of neuropsychological assessment. Contributors are all engaged in the clinical practice of neuropsychological assessment as well as in teaching and research. Thus, they are very familiar with common misconceptions, practice errors, and methodological problems, and are able to integrate both academic and practical aspects of neuropsychological assessment.

Intended to serve as a graduate-level textbook for courses in neuropsychological assessment, this book will also be a valuable handbook for interns and professionals who engage in the practice or teaching of clinical neuropsychology. Individuals practicing in forensic settings where the evaluation of brain damage or cognitive impairment is relevant will also find this a useful reference.
