Drs. Walters and Karram are very active in organizing the subspeciality of Urogynecology and
Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery; both direct fellowships in this subspecialty at their respective
institutions and are members of numerous professional societies including the American College
ofObstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Urogynecologic Society, the Soceity of
Gynecologic Surgeons, and the International Continence Society.

Dr. Walters served as chairman of the education committee of the American Urogynecologic Society and has served as a Principal Investigator for the National Institutes of Health. In addition to this book, Dr. Walters has written and published many articles, chapters, and abstracts and is afrequent lecturer for the American Urogynecology Society and at annual ACOG meetings. Many of his invited lectures dealt with laparoscopic surgery for urogynecologic disorders.

Dr. Karram is currently President of the American Urogynecologic Society. He also serves on the Editorial Board forthe Journal of Gynecologic Surgery. His publications include numerous journal articles, book chapters, abstracts and videotapes. Dr. Karram is a member of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease and the International Urogynecologic Association. Within the last decade he has presented more than 80 invited lectures and postgraduate courses.
