Clinical Simulations in Maternity Nursing

This CD-ROM covers three units entitled: pre-term labour and care of a premature neonate; a pregnancy complicated by a sexually transmitted infection; and adolescent pregnancy and prenatal education. The first unit covers normal labour patterns and instructs nurses in diagnoses of potential problems in both mother and neonate during a complicated birth. Students will also learn to recognize non-reassuring foetal rate patterns, evaluate outcomes of nursing interventions, and meet family needs. In the second unit, students will learn what signs and symptoms to look for in a mother with a sexually transmitted infection. They will learn to make proper interventions and understand diagnostic testing and treatment regimes. The final unit is a clinical simulation which gives nurses the counselling tools they need to help pregnant teens build reliable and comfortable support systems. It also assists learner to establish an effective management plan. Age-specific care is presented for a teenager.
