"Child Health Care - Process and Practice" is a text that was developed and written to present students with the essential content for paediatric nursing. This family-centred text utilizes a strong nursing process framework which is consistently applied for each chapter within a unit. Unit 1 discusses the essential concepts in child health care, including chapters on family and cultural considerations and legal, moral, and ethical issues. Unit 2 presents the child health nursing process, with a chapter devoted to each of the five steps of the nursing process. A case study is developed through the coruse of these five steps, with each chapter adding another step to the care plan. Unit 3 discusses growth, development, and health, from conception through adolescence. This discussion of normal growth and development of the foetus is unique to this text. These chapters also cover common problems associated with each age group. Unit 4 consists of six chapters which address special considerations in child health nursing, such as hospitalization, home care, and the effects of substance abuse on children and families, as well as dying and death.
