CHARLOTTE FIRTH qualified as a speech and language therapist in 1989 from Leeds Metropolitan University. She has always worked in Yorkshire, initially with adults and children in clinic and hospital settings, but she began to specialise in paediatric work in 1990. In May 1990, she became a part-time research assitant at Leeds Metropolitan University, working with Dr Michael Perkins on a pilot study to investigate. KATHERINE VENKATESH as a speech and language therapist in 1986 from Leeds Metropolitan University. Since then, she has worked in North Derbyshire and Scarborough specializing in working with children in a variety of settings. She has also qualified as a course tutor for the Derbyshire Language Scheme. Her involvement with this project arose from a chance remark in Summer 1996, when she offered to provide some pictures for the therapy programmes.

Photocopiable Therapy Handouts - An overview section places semantic-pragmatic disorder in its context, discusses its origins and identifies the characteristics of this disorder in comparison to autism and Asperger's Syndrome. - Offers a separate section, the Questions and Answers booklet, as a photocopiable guide that can be handed to teachers and parents. - Problems Solutions highlights the difficulties children and parents can encounter with this type of language disorder and offers some helpful strategies. - Developmental Checklists in four stages are included. Covering the years 0-2, 2-5, 6-8 and 9-16, therapy ideas for each stage can be cross-referenced to the checklists. - Therapy ideas related to areas of difficulty detailed in the above four stages and therapy materials to supplement these ideas are included
