This volume brings together many of the accumulated advances in reconstructive surgery and their application to the burn patient. Burn patients need every reconstructive option available, from the oldest to the newest. The old-fashioned tube pedicle, complex free flaps, simple scar revisions and multi-stage tissue expansions must be considered. This book allows the principles and philosophy of burn reconstruction to be elaborated, lists the basic references and provides a guide to the most common procedures. With this book as a guide, residents and surgeons who do not perform large volumes of burn reconstruction will be able to develop a rational approach to burn reconstruction. Another goal is to emphasize elements of early care that will minimize the need for later reconstruction. Burn reconstruction is not an isolated phenomenon that occurs after the burn is covered and the scars matured. If all members of the burn team have a clear idea of reconstructive goals, these goals can be more rapidly achieved.
