Serves as a reference to orthopedic testing. This book contains a total of 261 gamuts, covering such things as: anatomy, motion assessment, muscle function and imaging elements. It features a bibliography, a glossary of abbreviations, and an index.
"Instant Access to Orthopedic Physical Assessment" is intended as a pocket guide, serving as a portable reference to orthopedic testing. "Instant Access" is a handy, quick reference for practitioners, as well as students in clinic. It is a companion text to "Illustrated Orthopedic Physical Assessment, 2e" (published in March 2001). The parent textbook provides complete information on orthopedic tests used during physical assessment. Each test description also contains a corresponding "Orthopedic Gamut," which is a distillation of information, representing both universal orthopedic precepts and specific regional principles and maxims. The gamuts serve as a diagnostic rubric in examining the patient. There will be a total of 261 gamuts in this book, covering such things as: essential anatomy, essential motion assessment, essential muscle function, and essential imaging elements. "The Instant Access" table of contents parallels the table of contents for the main text. After two brief introductory chapters on "Diagnostic Instrumentation" and "Cardinal Symptoms and Signs," Evans arranges chapters by body region (shoulder, elbow, lumbar spine, hip, knee, etc.)
, with a final chapter on malingering (non-organically based complaints). Each of these body region chapters has a specific format, which will help to make this a quick and easy reference tool. Each of these chapters begins with the following preliminary material, specific to the covered region: index of tests, table cross-referencing tests to syndrome to be assessed, and brief introduction addressing considerations or pathologies unique to the region. Then, with this covered, Evans moves into the tests for that region. "Instant Access" will cover all tests that are presented in "Illustrated Orthopedic Physical Assessment", and each test in "Instant Access" will provide: name of the test, alternate names for the test suspected syndrome, orthopedic gamut(s), concise description of the testing procedure, clinical pearl, and photo(s) of the procedure. There is one, comprehensive bibliography at the end of the book, a glossary of abbreviations, and an index. Thumbprint bleeds are inserted for quick searches.
