Joseph C. Stemple, PhD, is professor of communication sciences and disorders in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Kentucky, where he specializes in the study of voice production and disorders. His current research interests include the biology of laryngeal muscles during exercise, the aging voice, and the central neural control of voice production. Dr. Stemple is an active national and international speaker and lecturer. Dr. Stemple is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Edie Hapner, PhD, CCC-SLP, is the Director of Speech-Language Pathology at the Emory Voice Center and a faculty member in the Department of Otolaryngology, Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. She has served as the Director of Education for the Department of Rehabilitation at Emory University with special emphasis in FEES training. She served as the Coordinator of the Division 3 Steering Committee of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) from 2010 to 2011, was a member of the Communication Sciences and Disorders Research Group and a Scientific Fellow for the American Academy of Otolaryngology (AAO-HNS). Dr. Hapner was awarded the Clinical Scholars designation from the AAO-HNS Foundation in 2006. She served as ASHA's liaison to the Hoarseness Guidelines Development Committee for the American Academy of Otolaryngology in 2009. She has received numerous awards, including the Clinician of the Year Award from the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2007 and Outstanding Alumnae from the University of Missouri-Columbia Department of Education the same year. Dr. Hapner presents on the area of voice and swallowing at national and international conferences, has numerous publications, and serves as a reviewer for several journals.
