Since the release of Rechtschaffen and Kales' seminal manual on sleep medicine in 1968, the discipline has undergone a rapid expansion. This text is the product of a project by all members of the Mayo Clinic Sleep Disorders Center to create the first Atlas of Sleep Medicine.
