Case Studies from the Transfusion Service

This is a collection of 23 case studies that were inspired by the authors' experiences in busy, hospital-based transfusion services at tertiary care institutions. The case studies illustrate examples of the unexpected events that occur during a day's work as a bench technologist. Each case study is accompanied by a discussion of possible explanations and initial steps to take to handle a specific problem. Several possible investigations or actions that may be helpful in identifying causes of the unexpected event are offered. Each case ends with a description of the real-life situation. The accompanying IBM-compatible disk means users can view each case, making decisions based on the information given and receive a score.
