Advances in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Diseases Special Clinical Topics

Falk Symposium No. 83, held in Bolzano, Italy, April 1995, brought together a panel of international experts to deal with special clinical topics concerning the liver, bile ducts and pancreas.
The first section of this book, the Proceedings of the conference, deals with the rational clinical and laboratory approach to liver disease patients, mainly with therapeutic aspects of chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, liver cancer and portal hypertension. The second section is devoted to bile duct treatment with overviews of the non-surgical treatment of gallstones, the endoscopic therapy of biliary stenosis, and the role of the sphincter of Oddi in biliopancreatic disease.
The final section describes recent progress in the field of the pathogenesis of therapy of acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, and cancer of the pancreas.
