The needs of children with endocrine disorders are very different from those of adults and such patients have long been treated by specialist paediatric endocrinologists. At some point, the child reaches puberty and is likely to be passed on to the care of an adult endocrinologist. However, during adolescence, there are particular issues which affect both paediatric and adult care and it is essential that opinion and treatment are synchronous between the two groups of specialists. This volume brings together paediatric and adult specialists from Europe, North America and Japan to discuss the particular problems of adolescence, including issues surrounding growth hormone, puberty, obesity, misuse of anabolic steroids and associated drugs, and disorders such as congenital adrenal hyperplasia, which are linked with ambivalent sexuality. Many diseases such as osteoporsis and polycystic ovaries are conditions which commence in childhood/adolescence and are expressed in adult life.
