Immunology Interactive CD-ROM moves the teaching of immunology to a medium that allows for 3-dimensional viewing of complex structures and process in action, to make the subject immensely more understandable and interesting. The program is structured around 16 full-colour, full-screen, 3-dimensional animations which provide a complete model of immune system function in a ground-breaking and visually dynamic way. Each of these animations can be thought of as a tutorial in an integrated presentation of the subject. Every animation has a synchronised commentary explaining the objects and activities taking place on screen. The animations are ideal both for self-study and for inclusion as part of a lecturer's presentation. The commentary can either be printed out, or can be viewed on screen. The program features a brand new, innovative and intuitive navigation system which emphasises the relationships between all the animations. This reinforces the student's comprehension of the immune system as a whole, by constantly reinforcing important relationships within this system.
Related to each animation are a list of 'expansions' which include text, photographs, diagrams, molecular models or video clips to provide additional information on various elements contained within the specific animation. The majority provide more detailed scientific information, though there are about 100 relating to clinical topics. 200 multiple choice questions test the students' overall comprehension and serve as an additional tutorial with answers which provide a rationale behind both right and wrong selections.
