The aim of this atlas is to provide detailed and comprehensive, easy-to-use information, sufficient to perform trichoscopy in clinical practice. From basics to advanced knowledge, everything in one book. In this sense it is rather an 'illustrated textbook' than solely an atlas. It includes evidence based information, acknowledged algorithms, which help easy diagnosis and 'take home messages', which aid memorizing specific features of diverse diseases. The atlas consists of two major parts. In the first part the authors describe structures and patterns seen in trichoscopy. The second part consists of detailed description of characteristic trichoscopy features of diverse diseases of hair and scalp. Consecutive chapters illustrate genetic hair disorders, acquired hair loss and scalp diseases.

Lidia Rudnicka studied medicine in Bonn and Cologne (Germany) and in Warsaw (Poland). She graduated from Warsaw Medical University in 1987. Her professional experience includes scholarships and work at Food and Drug Administration (USA), National Institute of Health (USA), University of Liege (Belgium), and Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia (USA). She is now full professor of dermatology at Warsaw Medical University (Poland) and chairman at Department of Dermatology CSK MSWiA (Warsaw, Poland). She is member of the board of International Dermoscopy Society and Polish Dermatological Society. Lidia Rudnicka was main organizer of the 'International Dermoscopy Conference and Course, Warsaw, 2006' and co-organizer of other dermoscopy courses and conferences. She was speaker and co-organizer of conference sessions related to trichoscopy, including sessions during meetings of American Academy of Dermatology, European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology and World Congress of Dermatology. Her trichoscopy session during the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting 2010 was given a top score of 7/7 by the audience in evaluation forms. She is author or co-author of several publications about hair and scalp diseases and managing editor of Journal of Dermatological Case Reports.
