Prof. Dr. med. Volker Diehl, absolvierte eine Ausbildung in Innerer Medizin, klinischer Virologie und Hämato-Onkologie am Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, am Karolinska Institut in Stockholm und an der Med. Hochschule Hannover. Bis 1983 arbeitet er am Aufbau der Arbeitsgruppe für internistische Onkologie an der Med. Hochschule Hannover, seit 1983 ist er Ordinarius für Innere Medizin in Köln. Seine Arbeits- und Forschungsschwerpunkte sind: Innere Medizin, Hämatologie, Onkologie, Infektionskrankheiten und Immunologie. Seit 1994 ist er Mitglied im Editorial Board des NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE, 1995- 2001 war er Vorsitzender der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Hämatologie und Onkologie (DGHO),1999 war er Vorsitzender der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Innere Medizin (DGIM).
