Written by leading clinicians and scientists, this book provides up-to-date guidance in the precise use of the latest techniques in corneal imaging, as well as evaluating treatment options and covering the management of corneal disease in infants.

This book, written by leading clinicians and scientists, focuses on recent clinically relevant advances in the diagnosis and treatment of corneal disorders. After an opening chapter considering the latest knowledge on the heredity of keratoconus, important advances in corneal imaging are discussed, in particular the use of optical coherence tomography and in vivo confocal microscopy for evaluation of the normal and the diseased cornea. Antiangiogenic treatment options are then reviewed, and new aspects in the diagnosis and therapy of mycobacterial keratitis explained. Further chapters address the storage of donor cornea for penetrating and lamellar keratoplasty and the keratoplasty in infants. The book closes by discussing new developments in antibacterial chemotherapy for bacterial keratitis.

Thomas Reinhard is expert in the diagnosis and therapy of corneal diseases and especially in corneal surgery, including all techniques of lamellar and penetrating keratoplasty. To date he has published about 300 scientific papers. He has been chairman of the University Eye Hospital Freiburg, Germany since 2003. He is board member of the German Ophthalmological Society (DOG) and was its President in 2010-2011. Frank Larkin has subspecialised in corneal and external eye diseases since his appointment as a consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London in 1997. With a special interest in corneal transplantation, his published work covers a wide range of both clinical and experimental research in this field. He was director of the Cornea and External Diseases Service at Moorfields from 2001 to 2008 and is currently Deputy Director of the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for translational research at Moorfields and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. Dr. Larkin is a member of the editorial board of the British Journal of Ophthalmology and has been a board member of EuCornea since 2009.

New aspects in diagnosis and therapy of mycobacterial keratitis.- New developments in antibacterial chemotherapy for corneal Infection.- Heredity of keratoconus.- Advances in corneal imaging.- An update on anti-angiogenesis in the cornea.- Storage of penetrating and lamellar grafts.- Keratoplasty in infants.

"It focuses on recent developments, primarily involving the anterior segment and corneal disease in particular. ... this is a very good exposition of anterior segment subjects not generally considered in present textbooks, with knowledge often not easily available elsewhere." (Herbert E. Kaufman, Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, Vol. 253, October, 2015)
