The second of three volumes covering the neurological elements of systemic diseases. The contributors discuss the neurological complications of a variety of diseases, with the emphasis on orthopaedic, endocrinological and gastrointestinal disorders.
This is the second volume in a three part series dedicated to the neurological elements of systemic medical illnesses. The neurological complications of diseases and their treatments are discussed, with an emphasis on orthopedic, endocrinological and gastrointestinal disorders. The international authorship provides comprehensive treatment of these issues as they relate to clinical neurology. Chapters emphasize two primary aspects of the neurological interface with systemic illness: first, primary neurological manifestations of medical conditions, their clinical presentation, pathophysiological basis, evaluation guidelines and treatment recommendations; and second, neurological manifestations of treatment-related side-effects, stemming either from surgery or pharmacotherapy.
Careful discussion of both neurological manifestations of systemic illness as well as neurological complications of the treatment of systemic illnesses is presented. This volume will be of benefit to general neurologists as well as sub-specialists in neurology, orthopedic surgery, and several domains of internal medicine.

Dr. Michael J. Aminoff, Distinguished Professor Emeritus in neurology at the University of California San Francisco, is an internationally recognized neurologist, clinical investigator, and author. His published contributions led to the award of a Doctor of Science degree by the University of London in 2000. He is one of the two editors-in-chief of the four-volume Encyclopedia of the Neurological Sciences (2003; 2014) as well as one of the series editors of the multivolume Handbook of Clinical Neurology.
