It is well established that hormones signal to the cell nucleus. However, much research has focused on the transcriptional effects of these external signals. This book illustrates that hormones may also influence post-transcriptional nuclear events. Topics include: the regulation of pre-mRNA splicing by hormonal signals, focusing on the insulin receptor pre-mRNA; calcitonin/CGRP pre-mRNA as the subject of the study of tissue-specific mechanisms; and the extensive repertoire of variant mRNA processing seen during spermatogenesis.
